Ann and Nancy Wilson for Secretaries of Art

As if you already didn't have thousands of reasons to heart Heart, here's another: they called out the Republicans for appropriating their classic "Barracuda."

UPDATE: Ann and Nancy Wilson of Heart said Thursday night that Universal Music Publishing and Sony BMG have sent a cease and desist notice to the McCain-Palin campaign over their use of 'Barracuda.'

"We have asked the Republican campaign publicly not to use our music. We
hope our wishes will be honored," the group said in a statement that said they "condemn" the use of the song at the Republican convention. (from cnn)

I'm making a motion now for Barrack Obama, once in office, to appoint the women of Heart to new cabinet posts that will insure integrity and accessibility of music and art in our country. They will shape grant programs for artists, musicians and venues. They will draft legislation to make sure that classic songs may not be used in banal commercials or by banal political candidates. They will represent our citizen's defining contributions to a vibrant, progressive culture of creativity and expression.

Kind of like the governments in Europe have.

Do I hear a second?

(That's how it works, right? And then we take a vote? And then open champagne bottles and have cake, I think. Huzzah!)

Plus which? After meetings they could put on wuite the show, for no extra bucks! Think of the costs savings in "entertainment" bills!

An excellent idea.

I didn't need another reason the heart Heart or the women of Heart... but damn it if you haven't given me one.

I also didn't need a reason to open some bubbly but I have that too.

I hope you're happy, I'll probably be drunk on love and Cava by the time I record my show tonight...

I stumbled onto this blog and the suggestion regarding Heart. I think our country has so much more to worry about than the new cabinet posts occupied by Heart. Let's tackle poverty in Appalachia, or poverty in the inner cities; furthermore, teen pregnancy and a drop in college enrollment by America's youth are a concern. Lets educate our children so they can compete against others in a global world. I think Obama would choose my suggestions over "Let's appoint Heart to watch over our music industry and usher in a government the mimics one in Europe. What do you think?
