It's about time!

These last few weeks have been grueling. Work! And every evening, more gruel: first the Olympics, then the DNC followed by the RNC. I'm seriously bored and exhausted from all of the massively impressive, important or imposing efforts of other people that I have been forced to WATCH.

I'm drawing the line today, Friday, at 4.p.m. When my carefully set cellphone alarm goes of, it's time for some hedonism. Even if it doesn't go off, because that bastard is a bitch to set. Either way, hedonism is on, on like Donkey Kong. Hedonism is my number one skill/knowledge/ability. It's listed first on my job description. Hedonism is what you make of it. Just do it. Hedonism starts at home. Hedonism requires that we think globally but act locally. Very locally. Starting with your kitchen and your bedroom. Your porch and your laptop. Your ID. Right there in your lonely, abandoned ID is where the loveliness begins.

This weekend my ID is forcing herself out to play, not that she's hearing any protest. She has given me shopping lists--Campari, lube, DVDs, designated drivers, matches. I have route stops to make: grocery, pharmacy, the friend I pretend to catch up with and then she gives me a present and I give her money and then bye, so nice to see you, when are we ever going to have lunch?

Once the groundwork is in place, ID can take it from there. She knows the ropes, and also how to tie them. (By the way, if I haven't heard the safe word in awhile, I need to bump it up a notch, right?) I think that was ID speaking. It gets all muddled sometimes but ID is usually the loudest, so it's a safe bet.

Like bees and ants and prison inmates, we all have our own jobs and spheres of influence to keep this machine churning. The athletes should keep perfecting their personal bests, the politicians should continue to write wacky things for each other to say, and the cows should come home. I think each of us should do whatever we do best, now and forever, and mine starts with a little disco nap so that the night will last a long, long time.

Can you make the safe word "XUP" just for today, so I feel like I'm there with you?
